This semester has also brought two new members of the society to the executive team as well as a FMDS veteran in a new role. Joining the FMDS executive team for the spring semester are Lauren Steele - Treasurer, Kate Horton - Fundraising Chair, and Justin Ashwell - Publicity Chair. All three share a common love for both fashion and the society, and look forward to growing, building and being part of the fashion merchandising and design society exec team.
Lauren Steele is currently a Fashion Merchandising and Design major at Virginia Tech. Taking on the role of Treasure, Lauren wants “to make sure that FMDS is smart and responsible with its funds. I hope to set a budget that accommodates the needs of the club, while also allowing us to expand our horizons.” In the past Steele has acted as a stager for the 2014 Urban Jungle fashion show, and also designed the society’s 2013-2014 t-shirt.
Kate Horton is a FMDS veteran and a current senior Fashion Merchanding and Design major at Virginia Tech. Previously acting at FMDS’s event coordinator for two years and the student advisor last semester, Horton hopes to “plan one or two percentage nights to raise money for the club. I hope to also plan a fundraising event that will take place around or be incorporated with the spring fashion show.” With her previous and current fashion skills, Kate is sure to help grow the club this semester.
Justin Ashwell is new to the FMDS executive team, taking on the role of Publicity Chair. Currently a Marketing Management major at Virginia Tech, Ashwell plans on promoting the club through new marketing and promotion materials, as well as utilizing digital and social platforms; “I hope to contribute to the growth of FMDS both on campus and in the community, and become Virginia Tech’s largest society on campus”.
Together with the other members of the executive team, the fashion merchandising and design society is sure to grow in both membership numbers as well as campus popularity and events.
